A troubled young mother yearns for a shot at redemption in this heartbreaking yet hopeful story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover.

After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.

The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.

The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.

Main Character/s

Let’s break it down to Ledger and Kenna. Ledger, first impression, caring, and sweet. Ledger is such a sweet guy, towards his parents to his friends and employees and to Diem. I really love seeing him change his thoughts about Kenna and how he saw who she really is. I also love how even if he has seen the real Kenna, he didn’t make the harsh decision to make things right. He really cared for what Patrick and Grace would feel.

Kenna, first impression: bad influence. But I was wrong to think about Kenna that way. I just needed more context about her to understand everything and boy oh boy, I was blown away about who Kenna really is. I was hit hard with all of Kenna’s letters to Scotty, most especially the through about what really happened that night. I appreciate how she also didn’t make any harsh decisions nor acted on kidnapping her daughter just to be with her. I appreciate how patient she is and she believes that the time would actually come that Patrick and Grace’s decision can be changed.

Side Character/s

I really love the people surrounding Kenna and Ledger. I cannot believe that they are not judgmental and would do no harm to either of them. Seeing them interact with Ledger and Kenna was refreshing and I appreciate that. I also appreciate Ledger’s parents. They weren’t judgmental too and actually joke about their situation when they were caught. However, I also love that they were there to guide Ledger and advised him to make the right decision and they really see how Ledger cares for Kenna, despite what happened.

I also love that this book ended on a really good note and Patrick and Grace’s mind changed and gave Kenna the chance to be a part of Diem’s life.

Overall Thoughts

I have to say that this book was the death of me. I cried like crazy reading this book and I cannot move on from it just yet (hence writing this review). I cannot help but fell head over heels in pain reading this book. I have never cried so hard over a book, even her other books. I was crying and crying and crying.

I really love this book even if it brought me tears. I love how everything was put together and how it resolves itself. I love the main characters and the side characters and I love that Diem, despite not knowing who her mother is, accepted Kenna whole heartedly.
