Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

I regret not reading this book sooner. Ever since I read Daisy Jones and the Six, I knew that her books are amazing but I wanted to own her books physically before reading them. Doing that with this book was the best decision. I read it and loved it. I finished a pack of 100 page tabs (note: I cut the tabs in half, so that I have 200 tabs to work with).

I love seeing Monique and Evelyn’s life unfold flawlessly. Everything in this book is just amazing. I am honestly at the lost of words. There are just so much that this book has to offer and it would suck if I say so much. That would ruin your excitement. I went into this book blind. All I know is the fact that this book is well loved, it talks about a 60s star that everybody loves, and obviously that she had 7 husbands in the entirety of her life. The only thing I was spoiled about was that she loved a girl.

I love that this book shows us the Evelyn’s life and was separated by the husbands she had. It made me understand the timely and not mess everything up.

With that being said, I decided to get her other works because why not? They are on their way to me and I am excited.
