Another month has come to an end and it is time for me to share my monthly book haul and wrap up. Who would have thought that this year is running too fast. We are close to the third month and almost a year with this pandemic. But truth be told, we are somewhat thankful because we get to spend so much time with our families and really have the time to read our never ending TBRs. But we cannot also ignore the heartaches that some of us had gone through. I know we all are paranoid, depressed, anxious and just want this pandemic to end. While that one is still uncertain, let’s just enjoy this post with some books, books, and some more books.
🍒 My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows
I read this book in 2018 and I loved it so much. I enjoyed every single page of it despite it being a different genre for me. And to think that this book was a retelling of a classic Lady Jane Grey. Who would have thought that I would be enjoying this book and the rest of the books in this series. I am so glad I managed to find a cheap copy on Facebook marketplace. Glad it was a really a good deal because this book has been out for years now and a new installment of these books is coming out this year.
🥝 Save the Date by Morgan Matson
The only book that I need to complete the books by Morgan Matson. I was so glad that a close bookstagram friend (Jane from @deeminimalistbook) offered this at a low price. I got it for Php 250 (or around 5USD) and it was sealed and brand new. So that alone is a huge steal for me. It seems that ate Jane was not able to read it physically. So that was a really good deal for me plus the shipping was so fast. To be really honest, I have been seeing a lot of people selling this book but it was only this time that I took the opportunity to finally get it.
🍉 Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
The book that I have been waiting since it was released a year ago. I didn’t bother to read this on ebook when it was released even if I know that I might be spoiled somehow. But thank the gods I was not spoiled until this very moment.
So just a little story behind this book. I was just scrolling through Facebook Marketplace and Secondhand Books Philippines when I stumbled upon a post selling books. Crescent City was on the photo and I checked the listing right away, it was priced half the original price and when I messaged the seller, it was available. I took that a sign to finally get it, with a huge thanks to the boyfriend for shouldering the expenses (he said it will be his late Valentine’s day gift for me) because I’ve been wanting to read this book since March 2020. So now it is here with me!
🍓 Love & Luck by Jenna Evans Welch
This has been on my to-buy list since I finished Love & Gelato last year. Plus the need to read and get this book rocketed when the third companion book was set to released on the later part of November of last year. I kept seeing this being sold in all the platforms I usually go to for books. But this month was the month that I finally gave in and get it because the book was being sold at Php 200 or around 4USD by a local bookstore in the country. So I took that as a sign to get it. Besides it was post Valentine’s day, I just need to reward and show myself that I am loved, no matter what. I can’t wait to read this book soon, and it looks shorter than Love & Gelato.
🍒 Twelve Days of Dash and Lily by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
This book was an impluse buy because I need just a hundred pesos more to avail the free shipping voucher of National Bookstore Warehouse on Shopee together with Love & Luck. As much as I didn’t love the second book, I decided to just get a copy because I love owning books that I already read than books that would take me forever to get to them.
I got this book for Php 150 or just 3USD. It is a steal, if you ask me. This would retail to around Php300 or around 6USD for a book that is so thin. So getting this at that price is good enough for me. Plus the book is brand new but with a remainder mark at the bottom, which isn’t a huge issue for me, it is just an indication that I got it at a low price.
🥝 Again But Better by Christine Riccio
I got this book at the very last minute, February 27th. I actually pre-ordered this from a local book service that orders books from US bookstores or websites. It is technically a pre-order as most of you know the meaning. Pre-order in the Philippines a bit different as books ordered from US websites and bookstores takes around 3 months or more before it reaches the seller and another few days before it reaches you. So technically, this book was ordered in October 2020 and the expected arrival date was Jan 2021 but because of the pandemic, it arrived a month late. But that is not really aa big deal for me.
I got this book at Book Outlet. It is the first time I am ordering from Book Outlet thanks to Booksacapades. I didn’t go overboard, like most would do when ordering books from Book Outlet. I was on a very tight budget and can only afford one book. So I got this for Php600 or around 12USD including taxes and shipping to the Philippines. I paid another Php120 or less than 3USD for the local shipping. Now that I have it, I am very excited to read it. Read the author’s note and acknowledgement yesterday and I am already intrigued, for some reason.
