Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
In this week’s prompt is about The Books I Bought/Borrowed. So with that I have decided to do the special books on my shelf that I have either bought myself, got from a friend or special someone and those that I won from giveaways. I have not planned this out that much, so expect to see some stories behind these books.
First on my list is the special books on my shelf is my copy of A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas. This is special because it’s a book that I was so excited to read and I actually joined more than 5 giveaways in the hopes that I could get a special edition of the third book of my fave series. It is also special because it has exclusive art prints on the end pages, plus this took 7 long months before I got my hands on these books. So consider that special!
Next on this list is the Collector’s Edition of A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab. I have not read this book yet, but I am so happy to have this book because it takes about my second favorite city in the world. And I couldn’t help but admire the black cover over the white one. Makes me want to get all the collector’s edition when I get the chance to. This is a giveaway prize too. I just randomly joined a giveaway and was lucky enough to get this book and a matching pouch.
Next is my copy of Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. This might be a DNF book but this is a book that I really treasure. This might also be a ordinary edition but it’s a gift from my mother. My parents seldom buy me books, so when they do, I will treasure that book no matter what.
And in line with my parents buying me books, this next book is a gift from my father when both of us were out for grocery. It was only him and me at home that time because the mother and siblings are out of the city, celebrating a fiesta at my mother’s hometown. This book is Make It Real, which is a Filipino written and published book. If you know me, you know how much I love supporting Filipino books and Pop Fiction Books are my go-to source for these books.
In line with the previous one, I have two special books that is a gift from my boyfriend. He has previous gifted me 9 books from Pop Fiction Books on my 19th birthday, a few years back. With that he has decided to gift me two books on the next couple months that I didn’t know he would. It was all unexpected. He just showed up after class and gave me the book. These books are Between Now and Ever After and The Wallflower’s Revenge.
Now let’s talk about the books that I really adore that I found when I was a thrift bookstore. This particular book is part of a series and world that I am just diving into that time. It was my honor’s day and my family had a little celebratory dinner at a mall 5 minutes away from our house. I decided to venture to the thrift bookstore before the mall closes at 9pm. I was there just for a very brief moment but I saw this book with no dust jacket sitting between other books. I was that it was the last book of The Mortal Instruments, City of Heavenly Fire. I didn’t second guess myself and bought it because why not? As long as I have a copy, I’m set. (Some day, I will collect all TMI books in their first edition hardbounds.)
These next two books are such a steal considering that I got them at a very low price. Imagine a book that cost, 80% off its original price and you might think the book is damaged. I will tell you, it’s not. It is still in the most pristine that it can be. I am talking about my copy of Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman and Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. I found this book at a mall in Metro Manila when I was there last February 2019 for a school field trip. Our lunch breaks are spend at the mall and we were at least given 2 hours to relax and eat our lunches. So in between our lunch and the time we need to be at our meeting place, we ventured into National Bookstore and I spotted this two babies on a shelf with other books priced at 80% off.
And the tenth special book on my shelf is my finish copy of The Crowns of Croswald by D. E. Night. This is special because I was gifted an ARC of this book and adored it. I never got the chance to get a finished copy, but the author hosted a giveaway for a collector’s edition of this book in honor of the release of her second book. I was fortunate enough to have won a copy and now I have this gorgeous cloth bound copy of the book sitting on my shelf, with the rest of my special books.

Yup! It shows how dedicated I was, since I was a broke college student. So the only way I could get these books are through the giveaways. 💕

I like that even if you didn’t necessarily love a book it’s special to you because of who gave it to you or the circumstances surrounding its acquisition. That’s lovely. I have a book about The Philippines that special because it was given to me by someone special during the year that I lived there 🙂
Happy TTT!
